Beekeeping

Ian started beekeeping thirty years ago with two hives on a friends property. He was fascinated with honeybees as a child as he watched a neighbor in his native Scotland tend to his bees and was able to taste the sweet fruits of the bee’s labor.
Since moving to our own country property in 1981 he has had up to twelve hives at one time.
The bees industry has been dealing with two serious problems in the last few years. Two different types of mites have infested the bees and have caused established colonies to dwindle and die if they  have not been protected with a miteaside.
In years past anyone could set up a few hives of bees and they would pretty well look after themselves with the beekeeper having an occasional look to see if all was well.. Those days are now gone and the honey bee colonies take a great deal of time and expense in order for the beekeeper to be able to bring in a fall harvest of honey.
